The Vision for the Year 2030

Our vision at McEnearney Associates, Inc. for real estate in 2030 is based on a healthy examination of how we do business today, and the need to create a culture that can adapt to changing consumer needs.  Before we can start to understand and prepare for what real estate in 2030 will look like we need to understand what trends we are seeing today that will be relevant in 2030.

Five vital trends for any successful brokerage or agent to master for real estate in 2030:
•    Understand the dichotomy between mobile business and bricks and mortar storefronts.
•    Redefine the brokerage’s role as a platform for career growth and as a local service provider.
•    Be relevant and present to clients when and where they want us.
•    Learn how to artfully balance personal styles and methods within the context of a larger brand.
•    Retool the image of the real estate agent and, in light of the recession, the housing industry as a whole.

The gold jacket isn’t the gold standard.
Real estate in 2030 will be just as much about customer relation management as it is about customer experience management. Building and maintaining a diverse and fortified network of friends, followers, fans and connections, will be paramount to these efforts. The timely incorporation and use of tools that enable these processes will be increasingly important.

The vision is rooted in the acceptance that the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts – gestalt – at all levels of business, from agent to staff to office, to firm and to the enterprise network.

But some things will never change.
The first ad that my grandfather, John McEnearney, created to announce the opening of the northern Virginia real estate firm in 1980 had this simple message:

“To provide a quality of real estate services that is second to none. To earn the respect of our customers and clients and ultimately their recognition as the best.”

Our commitment to this message, and the Realtors who have embodied it, has been the biggest driver of our success over the past 31 years, and it will continue to do so into the future. Of course, much has changed since McEnearney Associates, Inc. opened in 1980. The tools are different, the skill sets required to be successful are different and consumer expectations are different and higher. But the obligation to the client will always be the most important element of any successful agent and any successful firm. As it was in 1980, so it is today in 2011 . . . and so it will be in 2030.
